The Classical Progymnasmata: Fables (Student Guide) is the first in a fourteen-stage writing program based on the Ancient writing system called the “progymnasmata”. The Progymnasmata is a series of exercises that date back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. This series will focus on using Australian stories to model good writing. In this book, each lesson commences with a fable and students analyse the structure and language of each fable, using specific annotation techniques. Students will learn to restructure, amplify, and rewrite the fable. They will aim for mastery of variation of words and phrases. Students will also work on drafting and editing their work. They will also work on developing their oral skills, through vivid retelling of fables and through poetry recitation.
